Thank you to everyone who helped with the purchase, production, and delivery of 100 Baby Care Packages for the Care Net Pregnancy Center of Central Vermont. This project was made possible with a $1,000 grant from the Lutheran Church Extension Fund.
The original LCEF Grant Proposal was to fund 50 Baby Care Packages for $1,000, but with careful and frugal shopping, we were able to assemble 100 packages. Thank you to Janet Stone for helping to research and purchase items for the packages. Each Baby Care Package contains the following items:
- Bible story book
- Rattle toy
- Receiving blanket
- Washcloth
- 12 newborn diapers
- Baby wash, shampoo, and lotion
- Cross bookmark with Bible passage, handwritten message, and contact information for Williamstown Lutheran Church
More than a dozen of our WLC members donated their time to assembling the packages after church on June 25. Thank you to Bev, Mike, and Eric Schumacher, Judy and Russ Gauslin, Donna and Brooke Paige, Sheila and Lee Walther, Lloyd and Marsha Prestridge, Lynette and Cal Kemp, Ruth Stuwe, and Wendy Bailey for creating a fast and efficient assembly line.
WLC invited Shannon Trigos, executive director of Care Net Pregnancy Center of Central Vermont, to attend our Sunday worship on Sept. 10 so that we could formally present the Baby Care Packages. After the service, Shannon made an inspirational presentation on the important services the center provides to women of all ages experiencing unplanned pregnancies. She also set up an educational display in the foyer for our members. Matt Chin, congregation president; Mike Schumacher, missions chair; and Lynette Kemp, project coordinator, presented five of the 100 Baby Care Packages to Care Net to Shannon. Shannon said that the pregnancy center is thrilled to have such a gift and will make good use of the packages. She also mentioned that they may donate some of them to a new Care Net Center opening in another part of the state. WLC is pleased to be part of that effort.
Finally, thank you to Pastor Kemp for delivering the remaining 95 Baby Care Packages later in the week.
